Disaster Risk Management Training – Central NC:
Two-Part Workshop Series to Support Producers Across Central North Carolina
Farmers across North Carolina’s Piedmont region will have the opportunity this fall to strengthen their operations through a special two-part Disaster Risk Management Training. The workshops are open to producers of all varieties and will take place at the Durham County Extension Office: 721 Foster Street, Durham, NC 27701.

Part 1: Friday, October 17, 2025, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Part 2: Friday, October 31, 2025, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
This training is designed to help farmers prepare for, manage, and recover from disaster risks that threaten farm businesses. Participants will gain practical skills to build resilience against challenges such as weather extremes, market disruptions, and other unexpected events.
Workshop goals include:

Teaching farmers how to prepare for and manage disaster risks

Guiding participants in the development of personalized risk management plans for their farm businesses
Topics will cover:

Introduction to risk management basics

Farm business planning strategies
-
Best practices for disaster risk management
-
Farm-specific risk management action plans
-
In-depth study of various types of disasters and strategies for preparation and avoidance

Analysis of agricultural liabilities and assets
Farmers face uncertainty every day – from unpredictable weather to shifting markets – and this training is designed to help farmers tackle those challenges and give them practical tools and strategies to protect and grow their operations. Farmers of all types and scales from across Central North Carolina – including the Triangle, the Triad, and surrounding Piedmont counties – are encouraged to join. By investing just a few hours, participants will walk away with tailored risk management plans and stronger connections to fellow farmers and agricultural professionals.
This is a two-part workshop. To gain the full benefit of the training, attendance at both sessions is strongly encouraged. Registration is $20/person ($10/day), and includes a catered lunch on each day.
