Durham at the 4-H Feather Classic!

(Updated: Oct. 23, 2023, 5:51 a.m.)

Congratulations to Durham 4-H'ers who participated in the annual Feather Classic poultry show this October. We are proud of all your hard work raising baby chicks to happy chickens. Animal husbandry is no easy feat and at 4-H, we believe that this kind of experiential learning develops strong character, creative thinkers, and a capable generation of leaders!

In April, youth picked up 6 baby chicks (either Black Australorp or Barred Plymouth Rock) from N.C. Cooperative Extension – Durham County Center. Over the next 6 months they learned to feed, protect, and care for their animals. In between cluckings, they attended virtual workshops on biosecurity, 4-H project record books, and poultry showmanship. Finally, 4-Hers reunited in October to show off all their hard work. Durham brought home multiple awards this year thanks to their dedication and care! Check out our award winners below:
