Learn how to grow shiitake mushrooms in your own backyard! We’ll teach you how to prepare and inoculate your own log, promote mushroom growth, where to store, when and how to harvest, and more. All materials will be provided and you’ll go home with your own inoculated shiitake mushroom log! This event will be hosted at the DPS Hub Farm, an outdoor facility for environmental education owned and operated by Durham Public Schools. We will include time for a brief tour of our facility.

Choose from multiple ticket types, whether you want to take home one, two, or three inoculated logs. If you’re just excited to learn about mushroom logs but not ready to take one home, choose to donate your log to the Hub Farm for a discounted class rate.

All tools will be provided, but if you have a drill, 5/16″ bit, angle grinder, or hammer please bring it

COVID-19 protocols will be followed, including mask wearing and social distancing.

Please note, each ticket is for one participant, regardless of number of logs.

There are four identical three-hour sessions, each limited to eight participants. Class signups are $10-$30 per participant, depending on the number of logs you would like to take home. Sign up by clicking links below:

Instructors: Ashley Meredith, Hannah Ball-Damberg, Melissa Amoabeng, and Erin Doty, DPS Hub Farm Staff

This workshop is presented in partnership with North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Durham County Center.
