Measles is a highly contagious disease that has been making a troubling comeback in the U.S. and around the world as vaccination rates decline. Although it is preventable, measles can still lead to severe complications such as pneumonia, brain swelling, hospitalization, and even death—especially for young children and community members with weakened immune systems. A good way to protect our neighborhoods is through strong, collective vaccination efforts. Staying up to date with the MMR vaccine, talking openly about vaccine concerns, and encouraging friends and family to do the same help keep our schools, workplaces, and gathering spaces safe. Measles may be preventable, but without community-wide action, it remains a real and serious threat.
