Durham Attends 4-H Feather Classics!

(Updated: Oct. 14, 2024, 6:21 a.m.)

We want to extend a congratulations to those who participated in the 4th annual Feather Classics Show this October! Being responsible to raise chickens is not an easy task and we are very proud of the work and dedication from each one of the participants! Everyone did such a great job that the judges had ties in a few categories !

In April, participants came to pick up 6 chickens to raise ( either Easter Eggers or Golden Buffs) from Durham Cooperative Extension office. Throughout the last 6 months, participants have been learning how to care for their chicks. They have been responsible for cleaning, feeding, and providing protection for these chicks. While tending to the chickens, they have been required to attend virtual workshops regarding biosecurity, kept a Project Record Book with updates about their chicks progress, and informational sessions regarding showmanship . Then in October, they reunited with the other participants from 3 other counties ( Caswell, Person, and Orange) to show off what they have learned! Durham had many participants and a few won awards in their age level !
