4-H'ers represented Durham this summer at the annual NC 4-H Citizenship Focus. This event encourages teen leaders to consider their role as citizens by engaging with their legislative representatives, participating in workshops and getting to know how the NC capitol operates! After the conference, we asked each of them to share a little about their experience. Check out some of their thoughts below:

Addy: "Something I was very surprised by was how enjoyable each of the different workshops were... they were fun! I also learned how big the 4-H community is."

Amanda: "I learned different communication skills from one of the workshops and I was also surprised by the different variety of people that were there."

Promise: "I was surprised when we went to meet the legislature at the NC House. I thought they were going to be completely serious and they were just people!"

Shriya: "I was surprised by when we were sitting in the House Session. It was a really cool experience because I got to see actual legislation happening and actual law making in action... It was very different to be surrounded by so many people with different beliefs in opinions... and that was a really valuable experience!"
