What is 4-H Summer Camp?

The mission of 4-H Summer Fun is to provide a safe, affordable, enriching environment where youth can learn and develop new skills and have fun while doing it! Students participate in field trips and other hands-on learning opportunities targeting agriculture, horticulture, leadership, citizenship, healthy living, and science.

How Do I Participate?

Below are the 2 steps required to participate in any summer camp with Durham County 4-H. Your application will not be complete until both steps have been completed.

Step 1:

Register the student in 4-H onlineIf you are not currently enrolled in an existing Durham 4-H club, select  "Durham County Member at Large," then complete all required health and consent forms.

Step 2:

Pay for camp on Eventbrite links found below. 

Scholarships

Durham Scholarship applications was due on March 15.

Notification of scholarship recipients will be sent out in April.

Please note: We have a new policy regarding scholarships for Durham 4-H Summer Camps. Upon being awarded a scholarship to one of our summer camps, we are now requiring a signed agreement that states you will notify us if your 4-Her is unable to attend AT LEAST two weeks prior to the beginning of camp. Otherwise, you will be responsible for paying the full cost for the camp.

Refund Policy

You must notify Durham County 4-H at least 30 days before your camp begins to receive a full refund. If your schedule changes within 30 days of camp, you will not receive a refund. 

Eventbrite Registration Links

Registration in Eventbrite must occur after the participant's registration in 4-H online. Please select the camp(s) below and follow the link to enroll on Eventbrite. 

Cloverbud Camp: Ages 6-8 | June 15-18, 9 am-12 pm | Cost $50

Young explorers will spend a week exploring different folklore and tales from around the world by creating crafts and learning about cultures from various countries.

4-H Betsy Jeff Penn Traditional Overnight Camp: Ages 8-12 | July 27-July 31, overnight | $555 This traditional sleep-away camp in the mountains of NC includes activities like archery, kayaking, fishing, and much more!

4-H Betsy Jeff Penn Adventurer Overnight Camp:  Ages 13-14 | July 27-July 31, overnight | $555 This traditional sleep-away camp in the mountains of NC includes activities like archery, kayaking, fishing, and much more!

Trekkers Add-On:  Additional $50 

Trekkers Add-On: This special program for older campers focuses on developing outdoor living skills and includes a two-night on-site camp out on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

In addition to regular residential camping activities, Adventure campers learn fire building, orienteering, outdoor cooking, and tent set-up, and have the opportunity to go down the zip-line at high ropes.

During the campout, Adventure campers stay in a single-gender tent that they learn to set up themselves. They prepare and cook their own campfire meals.

Sewing Camp: Ages 12-18 | August 3-7, 9 am-3 pm | $170

Whether you’re a new sewer or an intermediate learner, this week will give you all sorts of new skills to design and create fun sewing projects! If possible, campers are recommended to bring their own sewing machine.

Farm to Fork: Ages 13-18 | July 27-31, 9 am-5 pm | $150             

Explore different Durham farms in the morning and return each afternoon to practice culinary skills in the food lab!

Woodworking Camp: Ages 12-18 | July 6-10, 9 am-12 pm | $100 Campers learn basic woodworking skills and work on 3 personal week-long projects. No previous experience necessary!

4-H Outdoors: Hiking Camp: Ages 11-15 | June 29-July 2, 9 am-4 pm | $100 Campers will explore different hiking paths around the Triangle area. Days will be structured around morning excursions followed by environmental science lessons in the afternoon. Our final day will be day camping, building fires, and swimming in Jordan Lake.
