The Durham 4-H Cooking Club meets each month to learn different cooking skills in North Durham. Their annual holiday cookie competition took place this December and club member Kyndall Weaver took the win with the most votes! Try out her Heath Bar Crunch Cookie recipe below.

Cookie Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flower
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup Heath bits

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper
  2. Add the butter and sugars to the bowl of a stand mixer or large bowl with electric mixer. Cream the ingredients for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy
  3. Add the egg and vanilla to the creamed mixture and mix until fully combined
  4. Add the flour, baking powder, and baking soda to a small bowl and whisk to combine. Then add it to the wet mixture and mix just enough to combine
  5. Fold the heath bar bits into the cookie batter
  6. Scoop out the dough (about 2 tablespoons per cookie) and place it on the prepared parchment lined cookie sheet. Repeat the process until all the cookie dough has been used
  7. Place the cookies on the middle shelf of the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cook on the pan for 2-3 minutes.
