row of colorful children's coats against winter background

Welcome Baby is launching its 13th Annual Winter Coat Drive. The goal is simple yet powerful: keep the children of Durham warm as we head into the winter season.

Winter often brings warm, cozy feelings of hot chocolate and a blazing fire, but for many in our community, winter can be a season of discomfort and hardship. This is why this initiative was launched in 2012. The Durham community has responded with incredible generosity year after year. By donating new or gently used winter coats, gloves, scarves, and hats, you can also help bring comfort and dignity to families who need it most.

“A warm coat can do more than shield a child from the cold, it can remind a family that they are seen, supported, and cared for. Together, we can wrap our community in warmth and compassion this season.”

— Patience Mukelabai, Program Manager, Welcome Baby

Thanks to community support, last year’s event collected and distributed a record-breaking 1,427 coats! This year Welcome Baby seeks to make coat drive our most successful yet and surpass the 2024 collection.

Ways You Can Help:

The coat drive will run from November 17th, 2025, – January 9th, 2026.

We are requesting donations of gently used and new children’s coats, hats, and scarves in sizes newborn to 8 years. Donated items should be freshly washed and dried before dropping them off at one of our confirmed collection locations.
