It’s that time again! Every 2 years (on even numbered years), food facilities are required to renew their facility registration with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Bioterrorism Act

Section 415 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) requires facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold food for animal or human consumption in the United States to register with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

FDA held a webinar for stakeholders on August 11, 2022 to address:

  • who needs to register or renew their food facility registration,
  • how to obtain a Unique Facility Identifier (UFI),
  • how and where to register and renew your Food Facility Registration (FFR), and
  • the benefits of registering your food facility.

FDA guidance for industry

The FDA has published a Q&A guidance for industry to address some commonly asked questions about Food Facility Registration, such as:

  • who must register,
  • who is exempt from registration,
  • when to renew registration,
  • how and where to renew registration,
  • and other information about updating, registering, renewing and canceling facility registrations.

Registration Renewal

Registration renewal is open from October 1 through December 31, 2022 on the FDA website.
