Senior woman with caregiver outdoorsAre you caregiving for a loved one with dementia? If so, the “Caregiver College” winter series is designed for you! Starting in January, a series of six sessions will be provided for caregivers of persons with memory disorders. These sessions offer greater understanding of the different aspects of dementia care from behavioral changes and loss of independence to treatment options and legal issues.

This series will be led by the MemoryCare educational team and attorney, Caroline Knox. MemoryCare is a non-profit organization providing support, education, and counseling for caregivers and families. Each session in the series will be live-broadcast and those interested in attending have the option of viewing from the comfort of their own home or in-person at N.C. Cooperative Extension, Rutherford County Center.

Cooperative Extension and Foothills Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging are working together, in partnership with MemoryCare, to offer these live-broadcast sessions in Rutherford County. This is an excellent opportunity for those who do not have Zoom capability or adequate internet service at home, as well as for those who prefer in-person participation and the care and support that comes with being in the presence of other caregivers.

Sessions will be held each Thursday from 2–5 p.m. beginning January 13 and ending February 17, 2022. Attendance is free, but pre-registration is required. If you wish to attend in person, please call N.C. Cooperative Extension of Rutherford County at 828-287-6010. If you prefer to participate online, please register through MemoryCare at 828-771-2219 or education@memorycare.org.

The deadline to register for in-person attendance is January 5. For those registered by this date, a notebook of educational materials (valued at $30) will be provided free of charge by the Area Agency on Aging.
