Notice for the fiscal year 2018 Rural Cooperative Development Grant (RCDG) program was published in the Federal Register on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. For more information, see this Application Checklist.

Lyn Millhiser with the USDA, Rural Development office in Raleigh, NC has shared the following information: “The RCDG web page includes an optional-use and highly recommended application template with various matching funds verification options, required application forms, and additional guidance.

The purpose of the RCDG program is to provide financial assistance to improve the economic condition of rural areas through cooperative development. Eligible applicants include a non-profit corporation or an institution of higher education. This year, the Agency encourages applications that will support recommendations made in the Rural Prosperity Task Force report to help improve life in rural America. Applicants are encouraged to consider technical assistance projects that provide support for rural communities working to build robust and sustainable economies through strategic investments in infrastructure, partnerships, and innovation. Key strategies include (a) achieving e-Connectivity for rural America, (b) developing the rural economy, (c) harnessing technological innovation, (d) supporting a rural workforce, and (e) improving the quality of life.

Total available funding is $5,800,000 with a maximum grant amount of $200,000 per applicant. The cost-share matching funds requirement is 25 percent of the total project costs, or 5 percent for the 1994 Institutions defined by 7 U.S.C. 301 and commonly known as Tribal Land Grant Institutions. The application deadlines are July 30 for paper applications, and July 24 for electronic applications submitted only via the Grants.gov website.
