The NC Food and Health Care Intersections Group is excited to announce the second annual public symposium on “Policy Impact – Federal to Local:  Strengthening Food, Agriculture and Health Care Intersections in North Carolina.” This event seeks to create a better understanding of the policy impacts of certain programs, as well as to increase the understanding of policymakers, health care providers, farmers, agricultural experts, health care insurers, and the public about potential initiatives to positively influence local, state and federal policy to simultaneously improve health and economic outcomes.

The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Ricardo Salvador, Director of the Food and Environment Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists, in Washington DC. Dr. Salvador is internationally renowned and works with citizens, scientists, economists, and politicians to transition our current food system into one that grows healthy foods while employing sustainable and socially equitable practices. There will also be state and local food policy council leaders present to discuss their work around the intersection between food and health care, including Morgan Wittman (North Carolina Alliance for Health), Lindsey Haynes-Maslow (NC State University), Abbey Piner (Community Food Strategies), Sam Hoefler (Durham Farm and Food Network), Ann Meletske (Alamance Food Collaborative), and Carl Vierling (Greater High Point Food Alliance).
