Collapse ▲The 5th Annual Coat Drive netted a record-breaking 400 coats along with 394 Hats and 39 gloves for distribution to families in need. Durham County Cooperative Extension’s Welcome Baby program thanks the Durham community for its generous contributions. The drive also led to increased donations overall to the program’s Giving Closet. Welcome Baby provides clothing and supplies to families of young children from birth to age five through its Giving Closet.
Welcome Baby offers its gratitude to the organizations who worked in partnership to provide drop-off locations and contribute to the drive’s success– Durham County Library, White Rock Child Development Center, and King’s Park International Church, Self Help Credit Union, Sheraton Imperial in Chapel Hill, The Little School at Duke, Epworth UMC and Holy Infant Catholic Church. While the goal of the drive was to collect coats for young children, ages 0-5, adult coats that were donated were given to the Durham County Sheriff’s Department for distribution to homeless residents.
Welcome Baby serves 10,000 Durham families a year by providing services including parent education, car seat classes, Cribs for Kids, and the Giving Closet.
